Hi Ronak, I am an OBC-NCL female, with acads 85,88,90 in 10,12th,Engg respectively, but with cat score 71.38 what all good colleges do i have to apply :( ? (any iits possible?)

DeleteComing to the acads while 889 is a very good profile, but the cat score of 71.38 which I suppose is the percentile might be an issue since that might not be able to clear the minimum cut offs set at IIMs for OBC-NCL.
Even at IITs it might be difficult because of the fact that IIT's have very less seats as compared to IIM's. I would suggest if this is the first attempt, to plan properly and go for another one rather than settling for a tier 2 college. Thanks :)

I calculated my composite score for stage 2, it came out to be 59.something, how likely is it that i will get a call from IIMK? and any other suggestion for my profile and MBA are whole heartedly welcomed.

DeleteYour profile seems amazing to me in terms of acads. I would suggest you put in efforts to increase your grad percentage as much as possible to create an even better profile.
At 59.xx there are high chances that you might get a call for interview. However, you will need to put in full efforts since this would be kind off on the lower edge.

You can definitely get calls from new and baby IIM's. Depending on your work ex some old IIM's (not giving exact which old ones since no one can say for sure) must also call you. Apart from this IIT's including IIT B, D, and all other might also give you a call for this percentile. All the best :)

DeleteFrankly speaking you have a great benefit of being from a non-engg. background but at the same time a slight disadvantage of not having work-ex. You would definitely get calls from new (IIM's like IIM Ranchi and Trichy slightly less as compared to others) and baby IIMs.
But remember you need to be above the sectional cut off as well in order to get a call. And if you have a call then you can definitely also convert the same. All the Best !!!!
Hi Ronit, I'm a general male student . My acads are 81,80 in 10th and 12th and 8.5 cgpa uptil now(7th sem) . Further I'm a BBA student and I got 87.26 percentile in my CAT including 81.58, 77.27 and 90.18 in my varc dilr and quant respectively so what chances do I stand for any IIMs ?

DeleteYou have an excellent advantage of being a non-engg. However, the percentile might be an issue. I would say you might get calls but that would be from Baby IIM's. Difficult chances even with new IIM's at this percentile though I would not absolutely rule them out.

Coming to the calls, a call from IIM B would be more probable if you have a sufficient work ex. For freshers, it is very difficult. For K and I though chances are much better as compared to B but as usually being from a GEM profile I would say it is 50-50 call. All the very best :)

Coming to the chances of calls, I would say if you have good amount of work ex you might even get calls from IIM B.
But IIM K and I have much better chance plus all the new IIM's. Secondly, every IIT right from IIT B should give you a call at this range.

Hello Ronit sir...i am bba student and have work experience of about 28 months...my cat score being 93.29%ile with sectionals as 74/94/95. MY 10TH 12th grad is 76/68.6/70.2 and my composite score is 58.30...sir is their any chance to convert IIM K as I have received the intial Call Via EWS CATEGORY and i am clearing the last years cutoff of composite score under ews category? DeleteSee the waitlist movement depends a lot on the buffer calls given as well. However, as per the data I can see, 35 is the class strength and 109 were offered admission. On these lines I still feel tough on the edge you might have a chance of getting a convert in the very last list. But please note again this is my experience and opinion it can go other way as well. DeleteAs per your scores, I would say you should also get a shot at old IIM's like IIM I and K (though I cannot say 100 percent). But new and baby IIM's will give you a sureshot call with good chances of conversion if you give a decent interview. All the Best :)

Also, being a non engineering grad will give you added benefits. So you should at least receive calls from I and K is what I am hoping. If you have good work ex you might also have received from B. Thanks :)

One doubt...In final stage of IIMK, they have 12% weightage to resume score with 4 marks given if one is passed out of a college/university with below 30 nirf rank. So there do we have look at overall nirf ranking or branchwise like engg, medical, law, university etc?

DeleteYes it is absolutely possible to convert the call with a good interview. See the thing is if you have received a call for interview it means you can also convert the same. DeleteWhile your acads are supremely good, the percentile might be an issue in getting a sureshot convert. In my opinion I wouldn't rule out the chances but keep it at 50:50.
If your interview has been one of the best out of the candidate pool then there are greater chances of conversion else you might need to wait for a few lists to convert. But again this is what I have seen with my experience and no one can predict anything for sure. Thanks :)

DeleteHello Ronit Sir, my category is SC. I have given the personal interview for KOZHIKODE this year. But I am a bit confused about the conversion stats. My composite score came out to be 47.882 as per their website. Kozikode's criteria is 44+44+12. 44% of 47.882 comes out as 21.06. The past stats for converting the call was 25.009 and my interview went well. So, will this 21.06 need only 5 or 7 marks more for convert? This is my only question.

DeleteThere are two things here. First is the composite scores change every year. So it can go higher or lower as per a lot of factors. Secondly, as per your calculations, 5 or 7 marks might be correct but you will also need to look into scaling that the institutes do for the interview scores in place. Considering these 2 factors the score needed for conversion is difficult to state. Thanks :)

DeleteIdeally it should be for the university instead of the institute. Institutes might only be those which are deemed to be university or autonomous. But this is what I interpret. The correct confirmation can only be provided by the admissions committee. Thanks :)
Okay, so while filling the form, they had asked us to select the University name from the list only if the University and College are same. (Can't interpret this properly) In my case, my college name is different than the University, so I selected the University name from the options. So while calculating the final score, do they verify this manually, and if they don't verify this, then will it cause a problem later once the scores are declared?

DeleteSo selecting the university if university & college are same means in the case of autonomous institutions or deemed universities. In other case if they have specifically asked to select college then they might take into consideration the rank of the college where you studied from rather than university. But again as I stated confirm this once. Thanks :)
Right, so my college is not autonomous. So I selected the University name. They will give me 4 points as my University is in top 30. But later when they find out, will it be a problem? Or do they verify this before giving points? If the latter is the case then it's fine.

DeleteAs per your profile which actually is stellar at 998 and the other details given you definitely have a chance at IIM K. Not right at the merit list but in subsequent lists you should be able to convert.
For CAP, you can get converts from almost all IIM's participating in the CAP rounds with better chances to convert early for the baby IIM's. However, just a thing that what I have stated is from my experience over the years and no one can say being complete sure of the prediction. Thanks and All the Best :)

sir, im confused about how to interpret the given data. it says that in general category, no. of students offered the final offer of admission is 640. also, there are 206 students in general category in the class right now. so, does this mean that the waitlist movement was till 640-206= 434??

DeleteYes you are interpreting that correctly only with the exception that you aren't considering the buffer calls if any might have been given by the institute. Hi Ronit, why is it that the total number of offers made in IIMK in 2020-22 batch so less than that of total offers made for 21-23 batch? I mean the waitlist moved a lot for 21 batch as compared to 20 batch. Can u pls explain?

DeleteThere is no particular reason to understand why the waitlist movement is higher in one particular year as compared to other. Waitlist movements keep changing every year. Also, there might have been scenarios like covid and maybe an increase in seats that might have triggered the movement. But these are just assumptions since no one can give 100 percent analysis and reason for the movement. Thanks :)
